Ironman 70.3 Mossel Bay
Mossel Bay offers scenic beauty of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains and the azure blue sea, rolling green hills and pastures, rich agriculture, and culture. Fynbos, aloes, dolphins and whales, a place one can only describe as paradise – a tourists dream. Mossel Bay’s history is unique and was pivotal to the development of the rest of South Africa.
SWIM – The 1.9km swim will start on Santos Beach. Athletes will swim from here via the marked swim route onto the De Bakke Beach at Santos Bay. From here athletes will run into Transition 1, located in the adjacent De Bakke car park to change into cycling gear. (Note that the swim start is located 1000m from the transition area and that the finish line is in the car park area of the swim start at Santos Beach area).
BIKE – Athletes will cycle from Transition onto their 90km bike route on an out and back course. This is via George Road, Louis Fourie Road (Direction Albertinia), N2, onto the R327 up to the Gouritz River valley (6km prior to Herbertsdale at the farm Uitkyk). From here they will back track to Mossel Bay and into Transition (De Bakke car park).
RUN – From Transition, athletes will start the 21.1km run and will turn left onto George Road, past the George Road turn around point, then onto Munro Street. The course goes past the Santos Beach area into the harbour precinct. From here the run course will exit the harbour area via Church Street followed by a left into Station Street. At the intersection with Bland Street athletes will turn left from Station Street, followed by another left into Kloof Street. At the bottom of Kloof Street, the course takes on the coastal pathway to The Point. At Delphino’s restaurant the run course returns to a tarred surface on Point Road via the parking lot. From here the course backtracks to the George Road turning point prior to Wigget Street but remains on Bland Street and George Road. This is one lap. After the third lap, athletes will run another 850m, onto Munroe Street followed by a left into the Santos Beach car park where they will finish the event.
