Birding
Mossel Bay is blessed with both diverse and unique birdlife. It’s position along the Garden Route allows access to many different habitats, each with their own community of birds. Some of these include the coast, marine, forest, fynbos, grasslands, montane, and agricultural areas. A day trip can also be arranged to visit the nearby Klein Karoo, which will add some of the arid zone birds to your list. Some of the special birds found around Mossel Bay include the Black Harrier (endemic and endangered), Agulhas Long-billed Lark (the Western Cape’s only endemic bird), the Blue Crane (our national bird), Cape Sugarbird (an icon of the fynbos), and White Stork (a migrant bird from Europe).
Grootbrak Voelkykers have regular ‘ birding outings’ for their members – Contact Marianna Glatz for more info: 083 511 0368
