What is a volunteer?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, a volunteer is:
“A person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.”
“A person who works for an organisation without being paid.”

Being part of Mossel Bay Tourism Volunteer programme, means that you get to experience the industry first hand, whether it’s being placed at an Information desk, or at a tourist designated area while maintaining the ICONIC brand standard.

What do I get as a volunteer?

You will receive a Tourism branded volunteer t-shirt, a cap, lanyard for identification and a certificate.

Is transport provided for me to get to and from the Tourism office?

There is no transport provided. The volunteer needs to make their own way to the appointed area timeously. Please allow for sufficient time for traffic congestion. Please report on time as communicated prior by your team leader.

How much time do I need to volunteer?

Generally, an average shift is approximately 4-5 hours. Further details can be found on the application form.

Language skills, customer relations and Tourism/Hospitality experience an advantage. Any references welcome.

Will I get training?

You will be given sufficient on-site training specific to your volunteer role; by attending the Pre- Volunteer Briefing. Details of the briefing will be pre-communicated to the registered and selected volunteers accordingly.

How old do I have to be / Who can volunteer?

Any males or females between the ages of 30 to 70 years old preferred.

Can my friends and family also volunteer?

Yes, please encourage them provided that they are within the recommended age limit.

All volunteers will be subjected to the requirements and will be asked to sign a waiver stating that Mossel Bay Tourism cannot be held responsible for loss of any personal items or medical injuries.
