SAPREC was established and recognized by CapeNature in March 2005. Today SAPREC covers the coastline from Stilbaai to Plettenberg Bay. Many of the seabirds that are treated are under threat and the African Penguin is on the endangered list. It is the primary seabird that is rehabilitated at SAPREC. We are proud of the fact that 655 penguins and 850 other seabirds have been rehabilitated over the period of 18 years. Unfortunately, some became permanent residents after rehabilitation due to injuries that will disable them from surviving in their natural environment.
