Nestled in the historic village of Friemersheim, this vibrant outdoor art gallery has transformed a quiet 19th-century mission station into a colourful and culturally rich destination.
The mural project, initiated during lockdown by talented local artist Fourie Ackermann, brings life and storytelling to the village streets through large-scale, hand-painted artworks.
Visitors can expect to encounter striking depictions of African wildlife—such as elephants, buffalo, and dynamic scenes of zebras in motion—alongside detailed portrayals of indigenous flora and elements reflecting the area’s rural heritage.
The murals are painted directly onto homes and buildings, particularly along the main roads, creating an immersive and ever-evolving open-air gallery.
This ongoing project continues to grow, with new artworks regularly added in collaboration with local residents. The initiative not only enhances the visual appeal of Friemersheim but also fosters community pride and attracts visitors seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences.
